Marriage is Temporal

Gallery

Sometimes I just have to speak out… Last week, Pastor D. Scott Meadows, of Calvary Baptist Church, Exeter, New Hampshire, posted A Christian Wife’s Marriage Catechism, followed a few days later by A Christian Husband’s Marriage Catechism.  Frankly, both the advice … Continue reading

God’s Step Family

Step families are not the same as nuclear families.  They’re just not. Sometimes we expect them to be the same…which usually leads to frustration and disappointment. Every family has its own unique dynamics.  In a nuclear family, children born into … Continue reading

A couple of weeks ago, I was surfing radio stations while driving, and landed on a Focus on the Family recorded broadcast.  The topic was ministering to couples in a second or third marriage –  a topic close to my heart.  I … Continue reading

Why I Speak Out

I am a Christian.  I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God.  I prescribe to a literal, conservative interpretation of God’s word.  I love studying biblical covenants, and find a deep richness of covenant references throughout the Bible.  I view covenant as a common thread woven through both testaments, tying promises in Genesis to prophecies in Revelation.  I often describe our God as a covenant God for Whom all interactions with mankind are based on covenant.  Covenant relationships and the keeping of covenant vows are a very big deal to me.

So why does someone, with my background and convictions, write posts titled “Divorce is Sin…Says Who?”  “Free to Remarry,” and “The It-Takes-Two Lie”?

I have been accused, by people who don’t know my story, of trying to justify the divorce of my first marriage… Click HERE to continue.

I am guest-blogging today, at http://danerickson.net/ [LINK BROKEN…Dan started over on his blog.  So I have reposted on my own blog and redirected the links]  Won’t you join me here?

I hugged my two youngest daughters good-bye, and kissed them each. Then, I turned quickly to leave, before they could see the tears in my eyes.  Driving away from their mother’s house, the tears spilled down my cheeks. A few … Continue reading

The It-Takes-Two Lie

Gallery

I heard it, again, just last week. A commenter on another blog told how she stayed too many years in an abusive marriage. Why?  Because, her pastor and elders admonished her, “It takes two.  Divorce is never the fault of … Continue reading

Free to Remarry

Gallery

Frankly, I don’t like the term remarry.  Remarry implies one is entering into marriage again with someone to whom they were previously married. When Sherri and I married, although we had each been previously married, we had not previously been married … Continue reading
